ALEXANDER RANDELL, EIT, JOINS FINLEY ENGINEERING GROUP AS BRIDGE DESIGNER
Tallahassee, FL (January 7, 2014). Finley Engineering Group (FINLEY) welcomes new staff member, Alexander Randell as Bridge Designer to its growing bridge design and construction engineering firm.
Alex is a recent graduate of the University of Florida where he earned his Masters of Structural Engineering with a specialization in post-tensioned segmental concrete bridge design. During his studies at University of Florida, he participated in research projects as an Ops Worker under the direction of Dr. G. R. Consolazio for the Validation and Implementation of Bridge Design Specifications for Barge Impact Loading and as a Graduate Research Assistant where he worked for Dr. H. R. Hamilton on two different post-tensioning grout projects.
Alex’s thesis Segregation of Post-Tensioning Grout during Full Scale Mixing and Injection investigated how the use of varying percentages of the filler material calcium carbonate in combination with varying amounts of water to cement ratios/HRWR admixtures affected the formation of soft grout and bleed water in full scale grouting operations using the inclined test tube system.
“Alex has developed and conducted a unique set of experiments on plain grout that has helped to isolate one of the causes of the recent soft grout problems experienced in post-tensioning construction nationwide. The testing and specification requirements developed from this work will help ensure that our post-tensioned bridge structures have a long and durable service life. Alex’s outstanding capabilities were apparent during his research work here at University of Florida. He was able to effectively utilize a combination of hands-on practical aptitude with a theoretical understanding of fundamentals to develop this test method. Alex is a member of ASCE, University of Florida, the American Concrete Institute and American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI). He is Certified Florida DOT Contract Plans Reading, and a Certified EIT by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers. His academic achievements include Dean’s List: Fall 2008, Fall 2009, Spring 2010 and President’s List: Spring 2009, Summer 2009.
