Finley Honored with ASBI Leadership Award
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Craig Finley, P.E., founder and president of Finley Engineering Group, was honored with the American Segmental Bridge Institute’s 2004 Leadership Award at the group’s Annual Convention in Tampa, Florida, November 8-9, 2004.
The American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) gives the award each year for outstanding contributions to the segmental bridge industry. Previous winners include Thomas Traylor of Traylor Brothers Construc- tion, former Caltrans Bridge Engineer James E. Roberts, and legendary bridge designers T.Y. Lin, Eugene Figg, Jr., and Jean Muller.
Despite the impressive list of recipients, Finley is the only two-time winner of the ASBI Leadership Award. He also received the honor in 1995 as president of Finley-McNary Engineers, the firm he co- founded in 1989 and sold to Parsons Corp. in 2001.
Finley received the award in recognition of his service as ASBI president in 2003 and 2004.
“ASBI is a world-leading organization for the bridge community; there’s nothing else out there like it,” says Finley. “To be recognized as a leader by this group is an honor and a highlight of my career, espe- cially considering the bridge industry greats who received this award in the past.”
Finley has been a dedicated advocate of ASBI’s mission to advance the quality and use of concrete seg- mental bridges since the group was founded in 1989.
ASBI Manager Cliff Freyermuth says, “Craig Finley has been a major contributor to the development of segmental concrete bridge design and construction technology for more than two decades. The ASBI Leadership Awards in 1995 and 2004 represent well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the industry.”
Soon after he received the ASBI award, Finley announced the establishment of Finley Engineering Group, a bridge engineering and consulting company dedicated to providing high-level expertise to all aspects and phases of major bridge construction projects throughout the United States.
In a press release announcing the new firm, Finley described it as an “engineering special forces group that can work either side of the fence.” He added, “Our strength is that we understand both sides; we don’t see a line between design and construction.”
