The $7.2M new Capital Cascades Crossing Pedestrian Bridge spans over Tallahassee Florida’s bustling South Monroe Street connecting Cascades Park with the Capital Cascades Trail. As the first solar powered pedestrian bridge in the world, the structure provides a safeguard for pedestrians commuting to and from Cascades Park, a park coveted by many as one of the crown jewels of the Tallahassee community.

The bridge’s design focuses on aesthetics and presented many challenges for construction. FINLEY developed a unique temporary support system for the superstructure precast girder sections that allowed the four slanted steel pipe columns to remain in position while the deck was supported and post-tensioned. This unique system then allowed for the transfer of the deck to the four slanted columns acting as the permanent interior piers.

For this project, FINLEY provided Construction Engineering services including Construction Engineering, Erection Manual, Falsework and Geometry Control.
