The $802M I-395/SR836/I-95 Design Build Project is a partnership between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) that includes three separate projects being constructed simultaneously. Included in these three projects are major improvements to a 1.4-mile-long stretch of the I-395 corridor between SR 836/I-95/I-395 (Midtown) and MacArthur Causeway. One of the most notable inclusions is the construction of a signature bridge with six sweeping arches that will span 1,025 ft. over NE 2 Avenue and State Road (SR) 5/Biscayne Boulevard. For this to happen, the existing facility will be completely reconstructed. The Overtown community of Miami will see some of the most significant improvements from the high vertical clearance of the iconic signature bridge over Biscayne Boulevard. Thirty acres of open communal space below the bridge will be developed for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors. This added layer of safety for pedestrians includes enhanced crosswalks, new bike lanes and a contiguous trail from NW 3 Avenue to Biscayne Boulevard. The improvements to I-395 will add further capacity with three through lanes in both directions. The project will also see separate connector ramps for traffic to and from I-95. In total, services provided by FINLEY for the I-395 Signature Bridge Design-Build include Design Review, Construction Engineering Review, Temporary Works Review, Erection Manual Review, Geometry Control Review, and On-site Review.
