This month FINLEY Engineering Group has been on site with Brasfield & Gorrie for the inspection of temporary falsework for the I-59/20 McFarland Bridge replacement in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As part of the construction engineering services provided, FINLEY designed the temporary bent to support the steel box girders with a cast-in-place concrete deck that will be subjected to traffic during the phased construction and demolition of the existing bridge. At the end of construction, the temporary bent will be removed and the 250’ long bridge will be suspended from two trapezoidal steel arches spanning across McFarland Blvd.

Construction is progressing nicely on the approximately $80 million dollar job as the first steel girders were set last week. See photos of the temporary bent and girder erection below.
